Beyond serving patients and making their health our number one priority, Georgia Center for Sight strives to support charitable organizations with similar values to our own. In efforts to do so, we are hosting a food truck next month, Biggum’s BBQ, and giving some of the proceeds to a program called Operation Sight.

What is Operation Sight?

Operation Sight is the ASCRS Foundation’s U.S. based charitable cataract surgery program. The program hopes to match patients who are eligible for cataract surgery with volunteer surgeons who are part of the Operation Sight Network. Their goal is to provide care to eligible patients in their home communities. The network of volunteer surgeons comes from both the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and many other charitable organizations.

Operation Sight helps those in need by providing free, humanitarian cataract surgery to those in the U.S. and other developing countries. Additionally, they increase the ability of physicians to treat cataracts in patients using education and support. They work hard to maximize the benefits of modern ophthalmology and to treat thousands of patients all over the country. In an attempt to reduce cataract blindness, Operation Sight is having a huge impact on patients in need. As an eye care center, Georgia Center for sight is happy to support Operation Sight in any wall possible.

What sparked Operation Sight?

Cataracts happens to be the second leading cause of visual impairment globally. On top of that, they are the leading cause of preventable blindness in many developing countries. Sadly, many patients are unable to afford care to put them back on the right track to healthy eyes.

The procedure itself is quick and painless, yet so many people suffer around the world due to cataracts. More than 85 million people in this world are visually impared, and Operation Sight wants to help decrease that number. Georgia Center for Sight is inspired by their cause and hopes to make a contribution with the proceeds from the Biggum’s BBQ food truck. Be sure to come out and support Operation Sight at our office on Saturday, October 19th.
